LA Department of Natural Resources
The mission of the Louisiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is to preserve and enhance the nonrenewable natural resources of the state, consisting of land, water, oil, gas, and other minerals, through conservation, regulation, and management/exploitation, to ensure that the state of Louisiana realizes appropriate economic benefit from its asset base.

DNR is one of the twenty departments in the Executive Branch of government. It was created in 1976 by R.S. 36:351. The department is composed of the offices of the Secretary, Coastal Restoration and Management, Conservation, and Mineral Resources.

DNR exercises complex and various regulatory and permitting functions through the offices of Conservation and Coastal Restoration and Management. The department serves as one of state government's major revenue-generating agencies by way of oil and gas bonuses, rentals, and royalties.

DNR's aim is to exercise prudent and effective management, using a business plan approach, through long-range planning strategies. The department's governing philosophy is open and receptive to innovative ideas, technologies and the promotion of a cleaner, safer environment. The department strives to facilitate an excellent working relationship with industry, with a strong emphasis on reaching mutual goals. Barataria-Terrebonne National Estuary Program
Watching over 4.2 million acres of wetlands the Barataria-Terrebonne National Estuary Program's challenge is to move forward as good stewards of the natural resources that remain within the estuary complex. The program is focusing on the following issues to effect change and understanding of this complex system: habitat, changes in living resources, education, water quality, cultural heritage, and sustainable economic development.

Atchafalaya Basin Program
In 1999 the Governor signed legislation creating the Atchafalaya Basin Program within the Department of Natural Resources. Eight state agencies, five federal agencies and a handful of environmental groups combined forces in a unique undertaking to maintain the Atchafalaya Basin as the asset it is to Louisiana. Their mission is to "...conserve, restore, and enhance (where possible) the natural habitat and give all people the opportunity to enjoy the Atchafalaya Experience."
