LA Department of Natural Resources
The mission of the Louisiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is to preserve and enhance the nonrenewable natural resources of the state, consisting of land, water, oil, gas, and other minerals, through conservation, regulation, and management/exploitation, to ensure that the state of Louisiana realizes appropriate economic benefit from its asset base.

DNR is one of the twenty departments in the Executive Branch of government. It was created in 1976 by R.S. 36:351. The department is composed of the offices of the Secretary, Coastal Restoration and Management, Conservation, and Mineral Resources.

Atchafalaya Basin Program
In 1999 the Governor signed legislation creating the Atchafalaya Basin Program within the Department of Natural Resources.
